Per the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs Notification* of 4 March 2021, we advise all OCI card-holders seeking to conduct research in India to obtain the appropriate permission through the Indian Consulate and/or Indian Embassy. All foreign nationals seeking to conduct research in India, should ensure they have the appropriate visa and papers.

Requirements

STATEMENT OF INTEREST
A statement of interest should include your areas of interest, a timeline for your research, travel plans, and other source(s) of funding. More details can be found in the Statement of Interest section below.


Funding

Program expenses covered (includes airfare, visa, and a stipend to cover food and accommodation). Please state other source(s) of funding in your statement of interest and during your meeting with our program manager.


Deadlines

The priority deadline for IAP and spring 2021 applications is November 15, 2020.

Required Application Materials

When you apply through our application portal, you’ll need to upload the following:

  • Resume/CV

  • Cover letter

  • Unofficial transcript

  • Copy of ID page of passport

  • 1 letter of recommendation

Statement of Interest

The statement of interest is for your MIT-India application itself and should address the following:

  • What are your reasons for applying to MIT-India?

  • How does this opportunity fit in with your area of thesis/study?

  • What do you hope to achieve with an experience through MIT-India?

  • What type of research experience are you looking for ?

  • Describe your research project and why field research is necessary to complete it.

Placement Process

Applications for IAP and spring fellowships are received until November 15, 2020 (rolling thereafter). Applications for summer fellowships are received until March 15, 2021 (rolling thereafter).
